The Garden of France
Kelly Ann Hargrove

On Thursday, October 29, twelve lovely ladies enjoyed a relaxing night of cooking, mingling, drinking wine, and learning during a Loire Valley-inspired hands-on cooking class. Chef Kathryn Gordon, instructor at The Institute of Culinary Education, has spent the last several years hosting culinary tours of the Loire Valley, visiting fleur de sel beaches and meeting with Michelin-starred chefs and master bakers, along with excited culinary students and foodies from all walks of life.

It was during these voyages across the Atlantic that amazing recipes were found, such as those enjoyed on the following menu:

Mushroom Hazelnut Duxelle on Toast

Shrimp Mille Feuille with Coriander & Ginger [see image above]

Spring Roll of Pork & Mushrooms

Chicken with Cider & Leeks

Asparagus with Crème Fraiche

Green Salad with Walnut Dressing and Assorted Cheeses

Apricot Ginger Custard Tartlettes with Streusel

Pear Pate de Fruit

As if that weren't enough, lovely Stephanie Teuwen donated remarkable French wines (Vouvray, Sauvignon Blanc, Cab Franc, and Sancerre), and spoke about their distinctive characteristics. Not an unkind way to spend an evening!

Many thanks to Chef Kathryn Gordon, Stephanie Teuwen, and Milena Perez for creating such a beautiful evening including white tablecloths and candles.
